Beginners Pottery Course (Tues 7-9.30pm)

Service Description

The aim of the course is to create a friendly, relaxed group of like-minded people to get together once a week and explore working with clay, creating a variety of projects from start to finish. Wk 1 - For new-comers, we'll all make the same item (Mugs/bowls/decorative item) lead by Nathalie, learning a variety of techniques to be used on our individual projects later. We will also discuss ideas of what you'd like to make throughout the rest of the course, offering suggestions if you need some inspiration but often we get ideas from each other. Wk 2 to 6 - Everyone will work on their own projects with Nathalie's support but working a little more independently and learning from each other along the way. We will cover building, preparing for glazing, glazing and firing in the kiln. There will be a mixture of hand-building (working at the worktop), and learning how to throw on a potter's wheel if you'd like to. Final Celebration week - when possible, everyone comes together to celebrate their finished pieces, look at everyone else's work, plan next projects and collect your pottery! To start with I will be offering 4 groups: Monday morning (9.30am-12) Monday evening (7 - 9.30pm) Tuesday evening (7 - 9.30pm) Wednesday morning (9.30am - 12) Up to six people in a group - a minimum of 4 people required to run each course. If I don't get 4 people sign up to your course I will let you know the week before it's due to start and see if you can switch. Making up a class - If you cannot make one class, you can try to join another a one-off class within the 6-week course to make it up. Unfortunately, no refunds will be given for missed classes. Dates: 6 weeks starting from Mon 3rd Nov to Wed 10th Dec 2025 inc Cost for the 6 week course - £230 including all materials, glazing and firing for up to 4kg of glaze-fired pottery (equivalent of about 4 bowls, 2 mugs and a small vase). If you make more items, there will be an additional charge of £8/Kg of glazed pottery (e.g. a mug would be about £3). The size of pieces is limited by the size of the kiln shelves and this will be explained when discussing your project. I pride myself on creating a relaxed and social class, so please don't worry if you've never done pottery before, are coming alone, or perhaps you don't feel you're particularly creative.
